Arrivals & Departures

Arrivals & Departures – the vernissage for Concordia’s Design Art and Computation Art programs – is happening today at 5 pm in the EV building located on the corner of Ste-Catherine and Guy.

I have two pieces being put on display, one a personal project called (UN)TETHERED and a collaborative papercraft piece done with Dominic Liu, Peter Fortune, Stefan Spec, Sean Yendrys, Brian Li Sui Fong and our slave-driver, Kyosuke Nishida.

It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of Concordia’s design program but I was pleasantly surprised at some of the work that I got to sneak a peak at. I’m not saying that my faith in the program is restored… Just that you should come take a look for yourself. Maybe you’ll even find something that you’ll enjoy (like the free beer!).

I honestly don’t know why I like South African Zef-Rap act Die Antwoord so much… But I do.

Props to Nicolas for pointing them out to me.

Sayaka Kajita Ganz

I stumbled upon Sayaka Kajita Ganz‘s work while in search of new sources of inspiration. Breathing new life into discarded household objects, Ganz uses them to construct her amazing and dynamic sculptures. The true beauty of her work, however, resides in giving renewed purpose to things that had none. As she so beautifully puts it:

“By building these sculptures I try to understand the human relationships that surround me. It is a way for me to contemplate and remind myself that even if there is conflict right now, there is a way for all the pieces to fit together. That even if some people don’t feel at home here and now, there is a place where they belong and that they will eventually find it.”

Check out her stuff here.

Ventura XXL Elvis Anniversary Collection

While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I collect them, I’m definitely a fan of unconventional watches -  especially sleek and futuristic ones – so naturally, I fell in love with the Hamilton Ventura XXL Elvis Anniversary Collection watch. I have a feeling this thing isn’t going to come cheap but summer vacations be damned; I want this on my wrist.

I’d choke on it (*meaningful eye-contact*)

It’s been months but I still can’t get NYC’s Artichoke Pizza off of my mind.

The modest exterior hides one of the most heavenly restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of eating at. The last time I was in the area with Sean (the beautiful bastard who discovered the place), we literally went to eat there for three days in a row. I have no idea how they do it but their slices but I’m pretty sure they’re the equivalent of culinary cocaine. Not only are they leagues above anything that we can find in Montreal, I’m fairly certain they aren’t even playing the same game at this point. They’ve effectively ruined pizza – at least Pizza in Montreal – for me.

Painful departures

I’m just popping back to commemorate my last day with Liz, my beautiful, warm, loving car. How will I ever make friends now?

Lets reminisce: 2009 (part deux)

Yeah, I know this is coming a month later but… yeah. Not that anyone’s going to be surprised at what’s #1 or anything.

Lets reminisce: 2009

Now that 2009 has come and gone, it’s time to look back and evaluate some of the stuff that came out and organize everything into lists because if there’s one thing people love, it’s lists. (And yes, I know this post is 13 days too late!)

Chunky Move’s ‘Mortal Engine’

YouTube Preview Image

I came across this video on Patrick‘s Facebook feed and thought I’d share it with you.  If you’re wondering what this is, in the words of the Malt House Theatre in Australia:

“Mortal Engine is a dance-video-laser performance using movement-responsive technology to portray an ever-shifting, shimmering world in which the limits of the human body are an illusion. Mortal Engine accelerates us into a reality of permanent change where crackling light and staining shadows represent the most perfect and the most sinister of souls.”

I can’t seem to find out whether or not this show is coming to Montreal or not but I’d very much to be there if it does.
